Winter Concerts At Spivey Hall

Spivey Hall, on the campus of Clayton State University in Morrow, Georgia, is a world class concert hall. More than 400 events are presented each year at the popular venue. This winter season concert goers will be treated to a variety of musical genres including classical, jazz, and big band sounds.
On January 21 jazz saxophonist Branford Marsalis will make his debut at Spivey Hall. The Grammy award winning musician will be joined by his quartets long time pianist, Joey Calderazzo, for a memorable evening. Mezzo-soprano Susan Graham, accompanied by pianist Malcolm Martineau, will return to Spivey Hall for a performance on January 28. On January 29 Spivey Hall welcomes the big band sounds of the Glenn Miller Orchestra. Millers legacy lives on under the musical direction of Gary Tole.

February concert highlights include a performance by Europa Galante on February 4. The classical Italian chamber orchestra will feature violinist and director Fabio Biondi. On February 25 the Boston based Jupiter String Quartet will return to Spivey Hall as part of its three year Project Jupiter, a public outreach initiative to the schools and community of the south Atlanta metro area.

On March 3 Richard Morris, Spivey Halls organist in residence, will present an organ concert on the halls magnificent 4,413 pipe organ. The impressive organ, built in Padua, Italy, is the visual centerpiece of Spivey Hall. The facility has excellent acoustics, and reverberations can be adjusted by changing the halls seven movable acoustic curtains. Clayton State University will present an opera on March 30 and 31. The performance will be directed by Dr. Kurt-Alexander Zeller, CSUs director of Vocal Activity and Opera. These tickets are very reasonably priced at $10.
Pre-concert talks are offered before select performances. These 45-minute informative talks are meant to enhance the patrons musical knowledge and listening experience. The talks are free to ticket holders and are scheduled for January 22 and February 12 and 25. Patrons may also enjoy Pre-concert Dinners. These are offered at 6:30pm prior to 8:15pm Saturday performances. Attendees can park at Spivey Hall and walk over to the Harry S. Downs Continuing Education Center. They will enjoy a buffet dinner in a private room overlooking Swan Lake. The dinners are priced at $40 per person and reservations are required.

Spivey Hall, with its beautiful lakeside setting, is an elegant concert venue seating 400 people. Tickets may be purchased at the box office or online. No children under age 12 are admitted to concerts unless the concert is specifically designated as appropriate for younger audiences. Concert patrons are sure to find a performance to enjoy this winter season.
